Everything we know about Atelier Resleriana: Forgotten Alchemy and the Liberator of the Polar Night

On July 31st, 2023, video game publisher Koei Tecmo announced that they would be hosting a livestream on August 8th about the future of the Atelier series. Although not confirmed, many fans had assumed that this stream would announce the next title in Gust’s JRPG franchise. When the stream premiered on August 8th, Koei Tecmo officially unveiled their newest Atelier title: Atelier Resleriana: Forgotten Alchemy and the Liberator of the Polar Night for mobile devices and PC via Steam.

Atelier Reselerina will be a live service game with gacha elements. During the livestream Koei showed off the game’s main menu UI, focusing a good portion of the stream’s runtime on how this menu will transition to show different characters if the player idles on it for an extended period of time.

On this menu we can see a row of buttons on the bottom of the screen reading “Shop | Gacha | Memory | Char (Character) | Party | Event” to the left of the screen there are three more buttons which read “Recipes | Mission | Menu”, and finally to the right of the screen there are three buttons that read “Atelier | Quest | Dungeon” with text below the dungeon button reading “Chapter 3-12”

Also on this menu we can see the game will feature a stamina system as well as two types of currency. One presumably used for upgrading characters and weapons and the other to be used for the game’s gacha system.

While no gameplay was shown in either the livestream nor the trailer for the game, screenshots from the Google Play Store have been confirmed the game will feature a turn-based combat system similar to previous entries in the franchise.

Similarly, while there was no sign of material gathering in any video for the game, store screenshots have confirmed this central mechanic of the franchise will be present alongside 3D environments that the player may walk around. Unfortunately, there exists no preview of the franchise’s famous Alchemy system, other than that single button on the game’s main menu.

Featured on the game’s website is a plot synopsis as well as several character profiles for the game’s cast, including the actors who will be playing them.

The main character, Resna, dreams of spreading the forgotten alchemy to the world again. Aiming for the legendary land “End of the Continent” where her only clue lies, her adventure begins.

An innocent beastman girl and Resna’s best friend. From an early age she dreamed of being a knight. She vows with Resna that they will make their dreams come true, and the two encourage each other. A self-proclaimed “handsome adventurer” that Resna meets in the royal capital. He seems to be interested in alchemy and asks Resna and the others to accompany him. He’s a jovial freak, but he’s definitely an adventurer, and he can do anything skillfully.
